Power outages across city close schools

Because of power outages at Riverside and Lincoln Jr. High, all Plymouth schools will dismiss 45 minutes early.

Because of the power outages at Riverside and Lincoln Jr. High, there will be no extracurricular activities at those buildings.

The high school will still have after school practices and activities.

Berndt to leave Ancilla nursing

KNOX — After spending eight years as a member of the nursing faculty at Ancilla College, Janeen Berndt is ready to move on — but her coworkers aren’t ready to let her go just yet.
“I’ve been told probably five times that they won’t let me go,” laughed Berndt. “The position director graciously said she felt like she was losing her right arm, and someone else just said ‘So you think you’re moving on?’”

TONIGHT: Plymouth student orchestras join together for night of music

PLYMOUTH — For the first time ever, all five Plymouth student orchestras are getting together for a community performance. “The Plymouth Orchestras Concert and Dessert” will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Lincoln Junior High Auditorium, followed by cookies and punch in the cafeteria. Featured will be the PCYO Concert, Symphony and Chamber orchestras as well as the Lincoln Junior High and Plymouth High School orchestras.

Plymouth Park board meets tonight; plans to discuss River Park Square

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Park and Recreation Board will hold their regularly scheduled meeting at 5 p.m. at the Conservation Clubhouse. Mike Reese with the Troyer Group will be presenting two detailed plans for River Park Square, and there will be a discussion of a new dog park. Also, administration will be requesting approval to accept the 3M for new gliders in the park.

Culver women 'paint the town pink' for breast cancer awareness

Culver residents Karen Easterday and Sue Roth wanted breast cancer to get some attention during the month -- October -- dedicated to its awareness, and it seems fair to say they succeeded handily. It's hard to miss two women decked out in bright pink, adorned with pink feather boas, and wearing t-shirts with the text, "Yes they're fake -- my real ones tried to kill me!" as they walk through the business districts of Culver.

That visibility, of course, was the whole point, say Easterday and Roth, both of whom have battled the disease and won.

"It started as a joke," says Roth.

It's not too late to grab tickets to shows in the area this weekend—PHS is doing "The Little Mermaid," and Argos High School is demonstrating "A Blast from the Past" with hit songs from the 1950s to 1980s.
"The Little Mermaid" shows at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $3 for children 12 and younger, and $4 for all others.
"A Blast from the Past" shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and tickets are $5 for all.
