WTCA auction helps Shop with a Cop

December 6, 2011

PLYMOUTH — The annual Shop With a Cop auction heard on WTCA am1050 radio Friday netted some $15,000. The proceeds will be used to take local needy children shopping on Dec. 10.
This marked the fourth year that the station has provided air time for the auction. The first year started almost by accident when FOP Lodge #195 was given three items to use for raising funds. That year, the auction raised $600. From that generous donation the idea was born and by the next year the community had donated items that brought in $10,000.

EMA adjusts severe weather alerts

December 6, 2011

PLYMOUTH — What is more dangerous, a storm “watch” or a “warning?”
These two terms, along with “advisory,” were recently redefined on a statewide level in response to last winter’s heavy snowfall. Marshall County Emergency Management Agency director Clyde Avery visited the county commissioners meeting to present the redefined categories. The traffic alert definitions are being adjusted partly so that all counties in the state agree on how they are determined.

Culver councilman alleges wind turbine photos mislead - owner defends

December 3, 2011

A few weeks ago, Culver resident Hank Bilsland defended photographs he’d commissioned of wind turbines placed at Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin following a suggestion by Culver town council member Ralph Winters that the photos could have been digitally enhanced to give the turbines a more ominous appearance. At last week’s regular town council meeting, Winters revisited the debate with a set of photographs he’d taken himself at the same site, accompanied by wife Barbara on what he called a “road trip” the two recent undertook to the Wisconsin site.
