Party affiliation at issue in park board appointment

January 26, 2012

Debate ensued Jan. 17 concerning the newly-reorganized Culver town council’s appointment to the Culver parks and recreation board, to which the council ultimately re-appointed current board member Patty Stallings, rather than applicant Rhonda Reinhold.

With Ed Pinder replacing Ginny Munroe as council president, and newest member Bill Githens on hand for his first meeting, members discussed the status of Stallings, a Republican who agreed to change party affiliation to fill a vacancy on the politically balanced board. Reinhold is a lifelong Democrat.

'Spamalot' musical based on Monty Python comes to Wabash

January 26, 2012

WABASH — Thank God we have a quest, and that quest will include laughter as the award winning Broadway musical “Spamalot” comes to the Wabash Honeywell Center’s Ford Theater Saturday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
The show borrows liberally and unashamedly from the classic film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” and features characters and sketches from the internationally acclaimed comedy team’s most famous film. With a book and lyrics by Monty Python’s Eric Idle and music by John Du Prez the musical tells the tale of King Arthur and his — rather offbeat — quest for the Holy Grail.

The 1992 CMA award winner will be visiting Goshen Feb. 2 as part of a tour promoting her recent album, American Folk Songbook. Bogguss said she decided to “lightheartedly” record some Americana style music she remembered from her childhood.

Promptly, drummer Bryan Hagan was stirred into the mix with his close friend, and guitarist, Adam Ockerman in tow. Inspiration, fueled by determined ambition, generated a reality and they deemed it Subtle Fall.

New exhibit coming in February for Heartland Artists Gallery

January 25, 2012

PLYMOUTH — Elkhart-based painter Michael Janowski’s work will be on display in February at the Heartland Artists Gallery in downtown Plymouth. Janowski, who initially started in art with drawing, said that he enjoys realistically depicting textures and fine detail with pastels.
“I could sit for hours upon end painting and not realize the time," said Janowski. "For me, the most time consuming part of the painting process is in the initial composition, not the painting.”
