Wesley Thrift Shop wraps up another successful year of giving

Culver's Wesley United Methodist Women's Thrift Shop has wrapped up another successful year, including providing a host of holiday-related items (at half-price the latter part of December) leading up to Christmas.

Of course, the store always offers just about anything you can imagine: there are books, games, dishes, hats, gloves and fancy sweaters. The profits from the shop go to support missions of the United Methodist Women projects there in Culver, in the area, the United States and throughout the world.

Lions Clubs spread holiday cheer

LAKEVILLE — Once again, a steady stream of children filed past toy-covered tables during the Lakeville Lions-LaPaz Lions Toys for Tots distribution day.
Unlike the last several years, though, those youngsters, their parents, and volunteers from both Lions Clubs enjoyed plenty of room to maneuver, thanks to a new location – Newton Center in Lakeville.
After eight years at the Union-North Ambulance Service building the ever-expanding campaign charged into its new home Saturday to rave reviews.

Pilgrims celebrate Thanksgiving during Christmas

PLYMOUTH — Game day started a little early for Plymouth’s Pilgrims.
Meeting Whitko on the floor at PHS Wednesday evening, Coach Ryan Bales’ team met some real VIPs earlier in the day. The team “adopted” several families in Plymouth to help brighten their Christmas holiday with gifts and food.

Culver’s DeWitt returns to Pearl Harbor for 70th anniversary of bombing

Culver’s Jim DeWitt hadn’t seen Pearl Harbor in 70 years, but over the week of Dec. 7, he and a number of others present on that fateful day, were given a hero’s welcome at the area many -- like DeWitt -- last saw when the wounds of the victims of Japanese bombers were still fresh, families of the dead still in shock.

Election ongoing hot topic at Culver council mtg

Two town council members last week added their comments to existing voices concerning the controversy over accusations made leading up to last month’s hotly-contested Culver town clerk race.

During the Dec. 13 regular meeting, Council member Lynn Overmyer defended outgoing clerk Casey Howard, who was defeated by Karen Heim, describing the “mess of paperwork” and “disarray” Howard was faced with when she first took over the clerk’s position, noting Howard straightened out the situation “professionally and promptly.”

Concept presented for downtown enhancement

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission voted in favor of accepting a final master plan for the proposed downtown park Wednesday. Presenting the concept drawing to the members was Michael Reese of the Troyer Group.
Reese said Concept I out of a number of different drawings that seemed to be the one most people who had attended public meetings, stakeholder meetings and also the Park Board favored.

Jefferson St., will hold its Christmas service at 6:30 p.m. The title of the service is "A Not So Silent Night — finding the Prince of Peace in the midst of your chaos." Dinner, a bet, and friendship influence fitness

PLYMOUTH — Rachelle Yung — and her workout partners Amanda Rogge and Melissa Bachtel — share their stories about their weight loss journeys. Getting a jump start on January’s Best Loser 2012 competition at the Fitness Forum at the LifePlex, the three will also be entering the competition, which is Jan. 16 to March 21. Registration deadline is Jan. 9, and teams will consist of just two players instead of the traditional four-person teams. Cost is $40 per team, and couples will still be competing for that $1,000 cash prize.
