Man arrested for theft

PLYMOUTH — Sean McNab was arrested Thursday for theft, following a report that some coins and other currency had been taken from the residence of Howard Schillaci on Olive Road in Plymouth.

LaPaz armed robber caught, charged

LAPAZ — An unknown person armed with a knife attempted to rob the Bottle Stop in LaPaz in February, but was thwarted by an employee.
Nathan Heyde, of Bremen, was recently arrested and charged in connection with the incident, following an investigation conducted by the Marshall County Sheriff's Department. Evidence collected at the scene of the incident aided in identifying Heyde as the perpetrator.

Plymouth Chamber annual dinner May 10

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner will be held at Swan Lake Resort, Thursday, May 10.
The chamber will honor all living past board presidents, present a brief review of 2011, followed by the presentation of the Program of Works for 2012.
Th dinner will be headlined by former WTCA sportscaster Rick Derf. He will be speaking about his time spent in Plymouth, sharing many life lessons and memories along the way.

Prom/crash message: Don't drink and drive

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth High School students witnessed a bloody scene outside their school Thursday morning as five students were involved in a two-vehicle crash blamed on drunk driving. Fortunately, the situation was staged — a joint effort from school administration and Plymouth emergency responders to encourage students not to drink and drive during prom night this weekend.
Marsha Wainscott, of the Plymouth Fire Department, narrated the mock crash with a bullhorn, informing students that though it was a demonstration, the actions taken by emergency responders would be realistic.

Robin Hood to take the stage at Lincoln

PLYMOUTH — The Lincoln Jr. High Auditorium will become Sherwood Forest for an evening as the school’s theater department presents the play Robin Hood.
The show opens Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Lincoln Junior High Auditorium. The show is one hour in length. Tickets are 4 dollars for adults and 2 dollars for children.

DMHO wins first Dove Award

NASHVILLE — Christian music has handed out it’s version of the Grammy’s - known as the Dove Awards - and a familiar face to Plymouth walked away from the event with his first honor.
Denver Bierman and the Mile High Orchestra took their first Dove Award in the category of ‘Best Children’s Album of the Year’ won by the bands latest offering entitled “Groovy”. The project is a collection of kids songs written and performed in the bands distinct style that is as popular with parents as it is their children.

Plymouth Walmart voted 'Store of the Year' by drivers

PLYMOUTH — Walmart in Plymouth was recently voted "Store of the Year" by the corporation's Illinois-based distribution center truck drivers. Three of the drivers visited the store Wednesday to hold a cookout for store employees as a gesture of gratitude for their hard work.
"(The award) is because of their consistent attention to detail," said one of the drivers, Steve Schlumpf. "Employees have the trailers unloaded in a timely fashion, they follow up by sweeping the trailers, and the inside of the store is always clean."

LEAD hopes to have impact with mock crash

PLYMOUTH — Sometimes there is nothing like a visual example to help learning. The Plymouth High School Leaders Eliminating Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) club hopes that will be the case Thursday.
The club will be holding a mock crash at 10 a.m. in front of the High School to be witnessed by the student body. Students, teachers, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and emergency medical technicians will be participating in the event, which will include real wrecked automobiles, an ambulance, deputy cruisers, fire trucks and a helicopter.
