Sen. Head visits Culver, Argos, in 'town hall' style meetings Saturday

Indiana Senator Randy Head (R - Logansport) visited Culver and Argos Saturday, discussing some of the more high-profile areas of state legislation of late and fielding questions from citizens.
At a "town hall" style meeting at Culver-Union Twp. Public Library, Head, now in the fourth year of his first term and serving the area due to recent redistricting, initially discussed the controversial "Right to Work" law, which passed last month, as well as the state smoking ban, which has passed the House but not the Senate.

Yeo leads Triton to 5th straight sectional title

BOURBON — Clay Yeo scored a game-high 30 points, highlighted by the game-winning bucket with 7 seconds left in the game, to carry Class A No. 51 Triton to a 56-55 victory over Marquette Catholic and its fifth straight boys basketball sectional title Saturday at The Trojan Trench.
Yeo, a 6-foot-6 junior, scored 16 of his team's 19 fourth-quarter points.
He hit his game-winner from 10 feet in the paint off an inbound lob from senior point guard Zak Shively.

WEATHER ALERT: High wind advisory

The NWS has issued a wind advisory for Marshall County. Sustained winds of 30mph with gusts to 55mph are expected. Strong winds will make driving difficult, especially for semi trucks and other high profile vehicles. Tree branches and power lines may be downed in isolated spots. Scattered power outages and downed tree limbs are possible. Loose outdoor items may be blown around. The Marshall County Sheriff's Office encourages everyone to drive carefully, watching for downed power lines and avoid downed limbs and power lines. Avoid touching downed limbs as they may hide power lines.

Students’ artwork to be featured in gallery

PLYMOUTH — In honor of Youth Art Month, several students from each elementary school in Plymouth have been selected to display their work at Heartland Artists Gallery downtown.
Elyse Chudzynski, art teacher at Riverside Intermediate School, said that it was difficult to chose only 26 of her students to be featured in the gallery.
Both the reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public. The students’ artwork will be on display for the entire month of March during the gallery’s normal hours of operation, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Wagoner arrested after dog bite report

PLYMOUTH — Officer Derek Workman with the Plymouth Police Department arrested 46-year-old Todd Wagoner at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Officer Workman located Wagoner walking his dog on Pilgrim Lane. The officer stopped to speak with Wagoner and explained to him that his dog was going to be quarantined for 10 days due to a court order.

Head to speak in Culver, Argos

Sen. Head to speak here Saturday
State Sen. Randy Head will hold a legislative update “town hall” style meeting in Culver Saturday, March 3, at 9 a.m. in the meeting room on the lower level of the Culver Public Library. The meeting is open to the public, and Sen. Head will be discussing current legislation in the 2012 session and answering questions.
He will also present at the Argos Town Hall, following Culver, at 11 a.m.
Head represents Union, West, Green, Walnut and Tippecanoe townships, along with all of Fulton County.

MARSHALL COUNTY — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Friday afternoon across Northern Indiana. Scattered thunderstorms are likely, capable of producing strong gusts of wind and possibly a tornado.

Community rallies to support teen

PLYMOUTH — Austin Schoff, the 18 year old Plymouth High School student who was struck by another Plymouth teen on Michigan Road Feb. 17, has been removed from ICU at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Says mom, Kathy Jo Schoff, “Austin is making huge strides considering the damage that has been done.”
She said that on day five, the intracranial pressure valve was removed from his brain and the sedative was turned off.
“Day six, the ventilator was removed and he began breathing successfully on his own,” she said.
