LEAD hopes to have impact with mock crash

PLYMOUTH — Sometimes there is nothing like a visual example to help learning. The Plymouth High School Leaders Eliminating Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) club hopes that will be the case Thursday.
The club will be holding a mock crash at 10 a.m. in front of the High School to be witnessed by the student body. Students, teachers, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and emergency medical technicians will be participating in the event, which will include real wrecked automobiles, an ambulance, deputy cruisers, fire trucks and a helicopter.

CES students 'wild' about visiting author

Popular children's author Buck Wilder (aka Tim Smith) paid Culver Elementary School a visit recently to read from his books, which include "Buck Wilder's Small Fry Fishing Guide" among others, and discuss the importance of spending time outdoors being active and enjoying nature.

City water rates to go up

PLYMOUTH — City water consumers will see a slight increase in their water bills beginning this summer.
Monday night members of the Plymouth Common Council approved on second and third readings an ordinance amending water rates for the City of Plymouth.
Speaking on behalf of the increase was the city’s financial consultant John Julian from Umbaugh.  About a month to six weeks ago Umbaugh evaluated the annual financial report of the water utility and recommended a gradual increase which Julian said, “the result will keep the City in strong financial shape.”

PHS 'Drive' event will raise $ for New Tech school

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth residents may be familiar with Oliver Ford’s “Drive One 4 YOUR School” fundraising events, but this Saturday’s proceedings will be a little different.
“Drive Smart for Your School” will feature Lincoln cars, with money from test drives going toward the Plymouth School of Inquiry, Plymouth High School’s New Tech school opening this fall. For each person that test drives one of the cars, $20 will be donated to the school by Lincoln. Oliver Ford plans to match this, making a total donation of $40 per test drive.

Culver Garden Court hosts ribbon cutting, open house

Culver's Garden Court senior living facility held its much-anticipated open house and ribbon cutting last Tuesday, the culmination of some 15 years of searching for land, said Dr. Ronald Liechty, Garden Court board president, and over two years of work to prepare and build the facility.

A number of people gathered at the 801 S. Main Street Garden Court, where rooms were available for tours and refreshments offered.

Western Ave. closed this week

PLYMOUTH — Pending the Board of Public Works and Safety approval of the Delmonte request to work in the right of way today, Western Avenue, Plymouth will be closed Tuesday April 24 through Sunday, April 29. The closure is needed to repair the two Western Avenue railroad crossings just north of North Street. The industrial park will be serviced by traveling on Western Avenue north of the closure area. Delmonte will be the only company serviced by traveling on Western Avenue south of the closure area. Updates will be provided if there are any changes in the work schedule.
