Culver Wings restaurant debuts

February 17, 2012

Most Culverites have heard (or said) in recent years that the one dining option Culver may be missing, with the disproportionate
number of fine destination restaurants for which its known, is what Culver-raised entrepreneur John Zehner calls "a moderately priced, family friendly place."

The kind of place, he says, where diners can order wings, burgers, or (in this case all-beef) franks.

That's the need identified and addressed by way of Culver Wings, which opened yesterday (Feb. 15) at the site of the former Yacht Club, at 115 E. Jefferson St. in the downtown Culver area.

BOURBON — In a group of more than 40 teenagers, it's rare to not see a single cell phone. But that's exactly what happened during Triton High School's recent trip to the Indianapolis VA Medical Center.
"We did not see one cell phone out while we were in the hospital," said Geri Newman, Triton High School nurse and chaperone for the trip.
"Some of our kids never stop talking, and the ones that never stop talking here were at a loss for words there," added Mason McIntire, athletic director.

Town considers fluoride-free future

February 16, 2012

BOURBON — Water/wastewater department head Mike Shoda came before the Bourbon Town Council Tuesday with the idea to stop adding fluoride to the town’s public water supply. According to Shoda, fluoride in water may not be actually necessary and taking it out could save the town about $2,000 per year. Shoda also mentioned that he had spoken with the water department head in Walkerton — a town which has already ceased the addition of fluoride to their water — about the issue.
“There’s no law that says we need fluoride in the water,” said Shoda.
