PLYMOUTH — Before dating websites like Match.com and Eharmony became popular, meeting people online was free — and that's how Caleb and Angi Polando met.
"It started with me and my friends trying to see how many girls we could meet (online)," said Caleb. "Angi was the one I talked to most."

PLYMOUTH — Fernbaugh's Diamonds and Fine Jewelry, in Plymouth, held a "Cutest Couple" contest for Valentine's Day this year. Couples were given the opportunity to post their photos on Fernbaugh's Facebook page and try to get the most "likes" from their friends and family members.

CES 'Soup for the Soul' returns March 14

Culver Elementary School's Soup for the Soul will return for a fourth helping March 14, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the school cafeteria, which is good news not only for hungry diners in the community and the students who will serve them, but the charities benefiting from the popular event as well.

UPDATE: Semi, van crash on U.S. 31

PLYMOUTH — Andrew McNeal, 29, of Plymouth was crossing the median of U.S. 31 at the intersection of 2C Road around 1 p.m. Monday when he pulled into the path of a semi truck heading south on 31. The driver of the semi, Bozo Tazan, 51, of South Bend, was unable to stop and struck McNeal's minivan, causing the van to spin off the road. McNeal did not have a seatbelt on, and he was thrown from the vehicle. McNeal's passenger, 6-month-old Reese McNeal, was transported by ambulance to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. Injuries to the infant are unknown.

BREAKING NEWS: 1 airlifted in semi vs. van collision on U.S. 31

PLYMOUTH — A collision between a semi truck and a van Monday afternoon left highway 31 southbound significantly backed up for several hours. EMS and fire personnel were called to the scene of an accident at about 1 p.m. near the U.S. 31 and U.S. 6 intersection. One individual was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

4-H dogs visit the library again Tuesday

The Plymouth Public Library is hosting "Dogs at the Library" from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Marshall County 4-H Dog Club students and their gentle, well trained dogs will be in the Children’s Room to allow children the opportunity to read to dogs. No sign-up required. Book club meets tonight

The Bourbon Public Library Book Club will discuss The Dollmaker by Harriet Simpson Arnow. The book club is open to any adult, and will be held the second Monday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the library. Even if you haven’t read the book, come to be a part of the discussion and help select future books.

Culver Police Investigate Armed Robbery at Family Dollar Store

On Saturday, February 11, at approximately 8:40 p.m., a male subject was reported as entering the Family Dollar Store located 18701 S.R. 10 in Culver. Once inside the store the male subject approached the cashiers and displayed a weapon and bag then demand money from the cashiers at gunpoint.

'Everybody wins' - community emphasized in 2012 Lake Max Triathlon

Culver has been no stranger to triathlon events in recent years, but organizers of a new such event slated for August 11 feel “everybody wins” due to a complete overhaul of the endeavor, with a much greater emphasis on the entire community -- and two local service organizations as beneficiaries.

Dana Neer, a lead organizer of the 2012 event and Wellness director at Culver Academies (and monthly Culver Citizen columnist), notes there were “some difficulties” surrounding the last two Culver triathlons a few years ago, which were led by outside organizations.

2 apprehended after string of vehicle break-ins at area high schools

PLYMOUTH — Andrew Benson, 19, of Plymouth and a juvenile from Plymouth were apprehended Thursday by Bourbon and Bremen police officers in the Bremen High School parking lot. The two had been breaking into vehicles in the parking lot of area high school for several weeks, taking items such as change, cell phones, stereo faceplates, and GPS systems.
