It’s the talk on Facebook, Twitter, between co-workers, friends and even family members. The battle lines have been drawn for what is being hailed as one of the most explosive games in NFL history when, for the first time in 70 years, two North Division rivals square off for their chance to represent the NFC in the battle for the coveted Super Bowl XLV championship title: The Chicago Bears vs the Green Bay Packers; Jay Cutler vs Aaron Rodgers and in Knox, Noelle Patrick vs Joshua Shepherd. Patrick and brother-in-law Shepherd are die-hard fans: Patrick for the Bears and Shepherd for Green Bay.

Culver projects set to move forward

PLYMOUTH — It may be possible that work at Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver will begin before the spring thaw.
Marshall County and the Town of Culver agreed to undertake the replacement of the outlet pipe on the lake hoping that replacement would take place during the fall when the lake levels are low. Permits for the work could not be secured and it was thought that the work would have to wait for the 2011 fall season.

United Way has reason to celebrate

PLYMOUTH — An ambitious goal has led to a celebration for the United Way of Marshall County.
This year’s campaign chose to increase their goal from the previous year in spite of economic indications.
“It was an ambitious goal and we’re currently at 95 percent,” said Director of the Marshall County United Way Jennifer Maddox. “We very optimistic that we’re going to reach our goal. We’ve seen huge generosity during this campaign – an increase in current donors and many new donors.”
The bottom line of the campaign is a positive outlook for the whole county.

New year, new member; same issue

BOURBON — The Bourbon Town Council convened for the first time in 2011 beginning a new year with a new member, Les McFarland.
McFarland was sworn in Thursday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m., at the town hall by Bourbon Town Clerk Kimberly Berger, to begin his four-year term Jan. 1.
And though new to the position as council member, councilman Gary Collins nominated him as president as the first item of business. Incumbent councilmember Larry Wattenbarger expressed his disapproval after the motion was seconded by McFarland.
