Commissioners restrict travel on roads

MARSHALL COUNTY - The Marshall County Board of Commissioners have decided to elevate the travel status from an "Advisory Level" back to a "Watch Level" beginning at 6 p.m. tonight.

Strong winds and blowing snow will make drifting roads a significant issue for travelers by tomorrow morning.

Bremen 8th grade orientation rescheduled

January 30, 2014

BREMEN — The 8th grade Orientation meeting originally scheduled for January 27th has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 6th in the Bowen Auditorium.

From 6:30 until 7 p.m. there will be a meet and greet in the lobby for parents and students to get acquainted with teachers. The orientation meeting will then take place from 7 - 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

Advisory level warning in place

MARSHALL COUNTY — The "Watch Level" travel advisory that has been in place since 4 P.M. Monday, January 27 at 4:00pm has been reduced to an "Advisory Level" at the direction of the Commissioners, according to an update just received from the Emergency Management Agency.

Some of the secondary roads are still slick and hazardous in spots and drivers should use caution, reduce speed and be mindful of black ice.

Teacher work day cancelled; students have school Friday

PLYMOUTH — The student day off set for Friday, Jan. 31 for staff development has been cancelled. Students will be required to come to school, according to information released today.

Former Lapaz resident returning home for comedy gig

County declares "emergency"; travel restricted, offices closed

MARSHALL COUNTY — County officials issued the following press release at around 5 a.m. today, announcing an "emergency declaration and warning level" travel advisory. This makes traveling on county roads illegal, except for those involved in emergency and or public service occupations.

Ancilla College closed for the weekend

January 24, 2014

DONALDSON — Ancilla College will close for the weekend due to dangerous temperatures and travel conditions, according to director of admissions Eric Wignall.

All offices and the library are closed through the weekend.

"The SAT test scheduled to be held on campus Jan. 25 is cancelled, and it is rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 8," Wignall said. "We plan to reopen Monday morning."

Plymouth to open warming centers

January 24, 2014

PLYMOUTH — City officials will open the Webster Center as a warming center as needed. Call local law enforcement if access to the center is needed. It is not intended as a shelter, city officials said Friday afternoon.

Bitter cold resulting in additional school closures

January 24, 2014

MARSHALL COUNTY — Several local school districts closed again today, as sub-zero wind chills blanket the area.

The closings have also impacted sports, as tournament and regualr seasons game have been cancelled or postponed.

The cold blast is expected to remain in place until Tuesday.
