Culver park board nixes beer tasting event, hires programming director

February 7, 2013

The Culver park board's vote as to whether to allow a beer tasting event in the town park came down to an even 50-50 split, but the lack of a majority of favorable votes equaled a "no."

The decision came after lengthy -- and sometimes heated -- discussion between representatives of the proposed event, Evil Czech Brewery owner George Pesek and brewery manager Shawn Erikson, and the park board and audience.

PLYMOUTH - The Plymouth Park Department has begun exploring the possibility of buying some land.
Property to the east directly adjacent to property the park already owns on the Plymouth/Goshen Trail has come on the market. The Park Board has begun the process of exploring if the cost might be worth the purchase of the 4.8 acres.
“That would be a natural direction for us to expand if we ever would decide to,” said Park Board President Dave Morrow. “We’ve started to look into whether it would be feasible for us to purchase that property at this time.”

Argos farmer seeks fair outcome

February 1, 2013

ARGOS — Hal and Jeanne Sullivan are like most families that own small farms.
They work every day, don’t take vacations and live a modest lifestyle.
So when they lost an estimated $80,000 in cattle, it was almost too much to handle.
“My daughter is at Purdue University,” said Hal. “All her life, that was her dream. All I can say is thank God for scholarships because he almost took her dream away.”
Sullivan said that he’s talking about Joe Miller.
Miller is accused of stealing cattle from Sullivan and the Topeka Sale Barn in LaGrange County.

UPDATE: Man charged with attempted murder in Bremen

January 31, 2013

7:19 p.m.
A follow up to a story we broke earlier today:
According to a probable cause affidavit, Chase Tanner Anglemyer, 21, took a woman from a residence in Bremen, beat her with a screwdriver and took her to another residence. While at that residence, Anglemyer is alleged to have shaved the woman's head, wrapped the cord of the electric trimmer around her neck and choked her until she was no longer conscious. When police arrived, Anglemyer allegedly said "She's dead."
The victim was revived and taken to a South Bend hospital.
That story and much more in Friday's Pilot News.
