Major accident in Bremen shuts down U.S. 6

BREMEN — U.S. 6 near Bremen was closed earlier today when a semi truck ran off the road and into an embankment. Preliminary information indicates that the driver of the truck may be deceased. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Police, coroner investigate inmate death at Marshall County jail

The Marshall County Coroner and the Indiana State Police are investigating the death of a Culver man while an inmate at the Marshall County Correctional Facility in Plymouth.

44-year-old Kerry A. Pinder of Culver died suddenly Sunday morning while awaiting release from the facility. Marshall County coroner Bill Cleavenger says neither violence nor foul play is suspected. An autopsy by Dr. Joseph Prahlow, a Board Certified Forensic Pathologist, was expected to be conducted Monday in Mishawaka. Pinder had been an inmate at the facility since early Saturday morning.

No wind farm here: commissioners look to ban commercial wind farms

MARSHALL CO. — Marshall County commissioners may have put the kibosh on a commercial wind farm in the area.

Monday, commissioners decided they will have County Attorney Jim Clevenger draft a resolution to ban commercial wind farms in the county. Once the resolution is prepared, it will go to the Plan Commission for a vote, then several public hearings will be held before the ban can be made official.

"We haven't had one person give us positive feedback (on the wind farm proposal)," noted Commissioner Jack Roose in Monday's commissioner meeting.

Home across from elementary school raided by police

PLYMOUTH — Two people were jailed early Tuesday morning when Plymouth Police and Indiana State Police raided a meth house directly across from Webster Elementary School.

The Culver park will welcome WNDU meteorologist Cindi Clawson Wednesday, April 17. Clawson will give a presentation on tornado and severe weather preparation and safety at the beach lodge at 7 p.m.

The beach lodge will also host, on April 1, an informational meeting for the new "A Million Steps to Success" walking club, at 6 p.m.

The "Beach House Scrappers" scrapbooking club will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 6, and game days on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m. are ongoing. Everyone is welcome!

Candlelight vigil for child abuse awareness planned

MARSHALL CO. — Department of Child Services offices statewide will be holding candlelight vigils to raise awareness for child abuse April 16.
Local DCS director Michael Carroll said that the public can expect to see more of these types of events, as his office seeks to increase community participation in the fight against abuse.
“The whole purpose (of the April 16 candlelight event) is to engage local leaders and stakeholders, to recognize those affected by child abuse, and to generate positive local media coverage for DCS,” said Carroll.

PLYMOUTH — A local mental health facility is under the microscope following a string of protests from past employees.
March 14, a group of former employees picketed near Michiana Behavioral Health located on Oak Road in Plymouth. These individuals held signs claiming that the facility is understaffed, causing an unsafe work environment.

Ancilla Domini Chapel Good Friday Services

DONALDSON — Good Friday Service will be held March 29 at 3 p.m. in the Ancilla Domini Chapel at The Center at Donaldson also known as the PHJC Ministry Center.
The Ancilla Domini Community Choir will sing “The Passion according to St. John by William Byrd.” Patrick Miller will sing the part of the Evangelist; Charles Weaver, Jesus; and Dana Hanefeld, Synagoga. Instrumentalist is Kelly Filson, flute. Mary Lou McCarthy-Artz is director/organist. Rev. John Zemelko is the celebrant.
All are welcome to attend.

Shop plans expansion

PLYMOUTH — L&K Serendipity Shoppe in downtown Plymouth will soon be expanding into 1,000 square feet next door.
Shop owner Lori Manning said she plans to start selling larger items such as furniture and antiques. To do that, she needs the space that formerly housed Ely Lane next door to her shop.
“We still have people coming in for the first time,” said Manning, who co-owns the shop with her daughter Kati Manning.
