Culver Wine Fest this weekend

CULVER — Hosted by the Culver Chamber of Commerce, the Culver Wine Fair features six Indiana wineries offering their wares at the Culver Cove Resort on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Tickets to the event are $15 per person prior to the event, and $20 the day of the event. Wineries in attendance will be People's Winery, Hopwood Winery, Easley Winery, Harmony Winery, Whyte Horse Winery, and Trader's Pointe Winery.

Voter registration app available

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson announced a new mobile voter registration app in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day. The app allows Hoosiers to register to vote, along with many other services, via their smart phone.

Hoosiers are encouraged to register to vote using the new app for National Voter Registration Day on Sept. 23, a massive 50-state effort to encourage civic participation.

Walorski votes in favor of ISIL amendment

WASHINGTON D.C. – Rep. Jackie Walorski released the following statement after voting in favor an amendment to H.J. Res. 124, the Continuing Appropriations Resolution for 2015 that gives Congressional authorization to assist and train carefully vetted members of the Syrian opposition.

The amendment passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 273-156.

Plymouth Clerk-Treasurer position open

PLYMOUTH -- The Republican part of Marshall County will hold a caucus on Sept. 25 at the Marshall County Republican Headquarters to fill a vacancy in the office of the Plymouth City Clerk-Treasurer.

Toni Hutchings, the current clerk-treasurer, will be stepping down at the end of September to retire.

Currently, Jeanine Xaver, an employee of the clerk-treasurer since 1987, has cast her hat into the ring to be nominated for the position Hutchings is retiring from.

Funding an health educator

PLYMOUTH -- The meeting of the Marshall County Board of Health met Tuesday to discuss the future of health educator position in Marshall County. The position has not been filled since September 2013, when Sally Read last held it.

Former highway superintendent indicted

PLYMOUTH — A Marshall County Grand Jury returned an indictment on Sept. 16 against former county highway superintendent, Neal Haeck.

Haeck, who worked for the county for 33 years before retiring on May 2, is accused of theft of county property valued at about $12,000. This theft concerned scrap metal and is believed to have occurred sometime between 2012-2013, according to a press release from the prosecutor's office.

Man dies after hit and run accident

STARKE COUNTY — Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle who hit and killed a 33-year-old Koontz Lake man in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Chris Howard, 33, of Koontz Lake was walking eastbound in the area of 900 E. and U.S. 30, before S.R. 23, when he was struck and killed by a motorist.

Howard was reported missing at 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. But no one had seen him since 2 a.m. Tuesday.

PLYMOUTH — Children are considered precious cargo, and for national Child Passenger Safety Week, the Women’s Care Center of Plymouth and Bremen is promoting children’s passenger safety though their safety seat inspection service from Sept. 14 - 20.

Senator to hold office hours in Fulton county

INDIANAPOLIS – U.S. Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.)announced that a member of his staff will visit Akron in Fulton County at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22 to meet with local residents and assist Hoosiers experiencing problems with a federal agency.

The meetings are held at the Akron Carnegie Public Library, 205 E Rochester Street, Akron.
