Marshall County Jail Bookings for May 22

‱Joseph Justin Roy Garrison, 34, of Plymouth was arrested by the Indiana State Police at 7:30 a.m. on May 21 for dealing, delivering and manufacturing methamphetamine.
‱Lisa Ann Mitchell, 41, of Bremen was arrested by the Indiana State Police at 7:30 a.m. on May 21 for dealing, delivering and manufacturing methamphetamine.
‱Jason Paul Kennedy, 37, of Plymouth was arrested by the Indiana State Police at 7:30 a.m. on May 21 for dealing, delivering and manufacturing methamphetamine.

Man's death in county jail due to natural causes

PLYMOUTH - An investigation into the death of an inmate in the Marshall County Jail has determined it was by natural causes.

Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney David R. Holmes announced Tuesday that his office has completed its review of the April 7 death of Kerry Alan Pinder, 44, of Culver while incarcerated at the Marshall County Jail. The investigation was conducted by the Indiana State Police and the Marshall County Coroner, with the cooperation of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

Seven arrested for manufacturing meth

PLYMOUTH — Seven people were arrested Tuesday morning after law enforcement officers served a search warrant.

The house was located in the 700 block of Oak Hill Drive, within 1,000 feet from Menominee Elementary School.

Arrested were: Jason P. Kennedy, 36; Joseph J.R. Garrison, 33; Lisa A. Mitchell, 40; Jamie Sullivan, 42; Maggie J. Garrison, 30; Amanda R. Miller, 26; and Tonia E. Flowers, 38. All those arrested, with the exception of Flowers, lived at the Oak Hill residence. Flowers’ is from Mishawaka, Ind.

Commercial wind farms prohibited from Marshall County

Marshall County Commissioners voted unanimously to prohibit commercial and large wind energy systems at their meeting Monday morning.

This has been an ongoing issue for Commissioners for about a year.

Also under consideration was an ordinance that imposed strict restrictions, in lieu of a ban. That resolution passed last month and will apply to smaller operations.

Metis Tribe receives state recognition

WALKERTON — State representative Tom Dermody was applauded for his efforts to secure state recognition of the Hawk Band of Metis Indians Saturday at a ceremony on the tribal grounds in the Walkerton and Koontz Lake area.

“People of many nations have come together today in the sacred circle,” Rev. Terry “Redhawk” Harris said during the ceremony. “Tom (Dermody) told me, ‘I will get this done. I don’t take no for an answer. I work for the people.’”

Argos annexation requires public hearing

ARGOS – Annexation procedures for the recently-purchased 75 acres on 17th Road between Michigan Road and Pond Street came before the Argos Town Council at its regular meeting Wednesday evening.

Town Attorney Derek Jones reported that after a search of the Indiana statutes, he found that the Council would need to complete a fiscal plan and hold a public hearing before annexation could be completed. He will prepare a draft of the plan to present at the next regular meeting.

During citizen input, Jan Heuer questioned the purchase of the land and the reasons for it.

Plymouth High Speech Coach is Hall of Famer

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth High School Head Speech and Debate Coach, David McKenzie, will be officially inducted into the NFL (National Forensic League) Hall of Fame in June at the NFL tournament in Birmingham, Ala.
McKenzie was notified just this week of the honor.
“It’s one of the few things that as made me speechless,” McKenzie said. “I am both humbled and honored.
“It is indicative of the coaches who mentored me, the students who worked hard to excel, and the wonderful staffs I worked with over the years,” he said. “This wasn’t won by just me.”

Yummy Lessons:Students learn about good nutrition and economics

PLYMOUTH – It has been said that we learn by doing. That is what is happening to kindergartners and second graders this week at Earthworks in Plymouth. The students are from Washington Discovery Academy, a project-based learning (PBL) elementary school in the Plymouth School Corporation.

Celandina, Zechiel, and Luttrell take tops in county spelling bee

More than 20 of Marshall County's best spellers gathered last Monday evening at the Culver Community High School for the 31st annual Marshall County Spelling Bee, which pits the top 5th through 8th grade spellers from Argos, Bremen, Culver, LaVille, Plymouth, and Walkerton, both public and private, against each other.

Charles Celandina, a 6th grader from St. Michael's Catholic School in Plymouth, took first place, followed by Riverside Intermediate (Plymouth) 6th grader Samantha Zechiel. Sarah Luttrell, grade 6, from Culver Elementary, came in third.

Shelter seeking supplies for women, children

PLYMOUTH - The onset of summer time means more need at the Heminger House.

The shelter for women and children that are fleeing domestic abuse situations finds a great increase in occupancy and need in the spring and summer months.
