Park board seeks further community input as lodge renovation plans considered

August 21, 2014

Culver's parks and recreation board is hoping to involve the public more in conversations and considerations regarding the impending renovation of the beach lodge in the town park, and towards that end hopes to schedule a public "meet and greet" event -- with refreshments -- in the lodge in the near future.

Passing of Emmanuel pastor Lewellen leaves void in church, community

August 20, 2014

When Pastor Ron Lewellen of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Culver passed away May 25 after a brief (and unexpected) illness, he not only left the congregation of one of the community's longest-lived churches mourning its leader of the past 12 years, but also left a lifetime legacy as pastor, husband, and father.

In fact, Lewellen -- who had intended to retire from preaching when he retired from his longtime job as second in command at the Essroc plant in Logansport in 1999 -- hadn't intended to be the pastor of Emmanuel...and in fact was never a Methodist pastor at all.

CULVER HISTORY CORNER
-

A busy, newsy summer has kept us from continuing our "virtual" journey through the historic spaces and places of Culver, and to a large extent much of this week's content, while very timely in one sense -- since the families associated with Culver's long-lived root beer stand were this year's Lake Fest parade marshals -- in another sense is at least partly redundant, since we reviewed the history of the business in this year's Lake Fest insert around a month ago.

‘Little Savages’ will have local premiere at L’Max Film Fest Aug. 30

August 18, 2014

It's official: the Lake Maxinkuckee Film Festival - Gift of Warmth committee has announced that the feature film presentation at this year's event on Saturday, August 30, will be the exclusive premiere of "Little Savages," the Bear Fruit Films-produced feature movie shot entirely in Culver last summer.

The event, which takes place in the Culver town park, is free of charge with the only cost of admission being a gently worn or new article of warm clothing for school aged children, or a cash donation towards heating costs for area needy families.

Beggs, Ricciardi emerge as council convention winners

August 17, 2014

Candidates David Beggs and Sally Ricciardi emerged for the ballot this November at a Town of Culver Republican convention/caucus held at the Culver Public Library Aug. 7.

Following strictly the county-wide rules governing the process, doors were locked promptly at 7 p.m. and each of the five candidates vying for the two open Culver town council seats were given a five minute limit to address the approximately 80 people in attendance.
