Lions-supported students prepare for mission

Three Culver Community High School students will journey to Mexico next month, once again supported by Culver's Lions Club and Culver Academies, and once again joining Academies students for that school's annual spring break mission trip.

Local author Ray Gleason will read from his new book, "The Violent Season," about the generation of young Americans who experienced the Vietnam war, Friday, March 9, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Culver Coffee Company in Culver.

Academies hosts Band Fest. Feb. 24-26

CULVER, Ind. – About 90 selected musicians and choir members from nine military schools and colleges from across the country will be on the Culver Academies campus Feb. 24-26 as the Academies host the 36th annual Military School Band Festival. The Academies last hosted the MBSF in 2005.

INDIANAPOLIS — A trio of area wrestlers from Culver have high hopes for the 74th Annual IHSAA Individual State Wrestling Finals, which got underway Friday at 6 p.m. with the quarterfinals set to begin Saturday at 9:30 at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Culver Community’s Matt Hurford enters the 182-pound field after a third-place finish at Merrillville Saturday, while Culver Academies wrestlers Anthony McHugh and Kayla Miracle enter the tourney at 132 and 106, respectively.

McHugh joins Hall as a two-time state qualifier, while Miracle and Hurford make their first trip to Conseco Friday.
