WTCA teams up with Rockies for auction
PLYMOUTH — As summer winds down the football season winds up, and the whistle of two-a-days means it’s time for WTCA-AM 1050 and the Plymouth Rockies to hold their annual auction.
This is the third year for the event that raises money for the football program at Plymouth High School. The auction will be live on WTCA from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
“Last year we were able to raise $8,000 and we’ve set our goal to raise $10,000 this year,” said Tonda Ellis, who is coordinating the auction for the team. “A lot of people have donated some very nice items for us to auction off.”
A trip worth $3,000, a copier from Adams-Remco, and tickets for the Crossroads Classic basketball games in Indianapolis, and Holiday World are highlights. Beef O’Brady’s has offered wings for a year, Coca Cola stepped to the plate with Coke for a year and Ask For Flowers will keep your special someone happy with a bouquet of flowers every month for a year.
Ace Driving Academy, Swan Lake and many local restaurants and auto parts stores have contributed items ranging from tools to meals.
“We’re going to have a half hour devoted to items for men, for women and for children,” said Ellis. “We’ll go longer than 2 p.m. if we have to sell everything we have.”
Money from the auction goes to pay for equipment - especially helmets with an increased emphasis on minimizing chances of concussions — meals for the team and the senior trip.
Those interested in bidding are encouraged to call ahead for a bid number to help the auction move more smoothly.
Call the station at 574-936-4096 or visit the website at http://am1050.com. WTCA will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. till noon for bidders to stop in and pick up their items.
