BOURBON — William (Bill) “Pecky” Peckham, 88, of Bourbon, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012 at 7:30 a.m. in his son’s home at Atwood. He had been in failing health.
Pecky was born July 6, 1924 in Newport, R.I. to William Peckham and Emma Doole Peckham.
Bill was a taxi cab and limousine driver in the Newport, R.I. area. He had driven people such as Milton Berle, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and Jacquelyn Bouvier (Kennedy). He was a resident of Bourbon for many years. Bill was a veteran serving in the United States Navy in World War II. He was a semi truck driver for many years and had driven more than 5 million miles in 49 of the 50 states. Locally Bill served as a police officer on the Bourbon Police Department for a couple of years.
He was an avid old car collector and a member of the Bourbon Car Bunch. He was very proud of his 1968 Chevrolet El Camino which he showed at many car shows in the area. Bill also served his community as a past employee of the town of Bourbon and Etna Green where he frequently visited the coffee shops; he was a member of the Bourbon Lions Club for 22 years and president for six years, Bourbon American Legion Post #424 and a member of the Moose Lodge. Bill also was a member of the Plymouth Church of the Brethren and formerly Mount Pleasant Church of the Brethren.
May 30, 1956 he joined in marriage to Lucille Welborn who passed away Sept. 8, 1992.
He is survived by his three children; Larry and wife Willa Peckham and Allen Peckham all of Bourbon, Joel and wife Luan Peckham of Atwood. Also surviving is his brother Alfred Russell Peckham of Middletown, R.I.  
Preceding in death was a daughter, Linda and two sisters: Alice Ficke and Miriam Whittmore
The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bourbon where burial will follow with Military Graveside Honors by the Bourbon American Legion.
The family requests memorial contributions to: Bourbon Lions Club, Bourbon Car Club, Bourbon REAL Services or Marshall County Hospice in his memory.
