What do you think about the proposed zoning change in Lapaz?

The Marshall County Plan Commission heard public comment in regards to a commercial overlay district in Lapaz during Thursday night's regular meeting.
Ordinance 15-PC-02 would establish a Commercial Overlay District in Lapaz from US 6 and Michigan Road east to Linden Road.
The ordinance would lay a district over the proposed area and gives the ability for that land to be used for commercial properties, such as hotels, auto repair and retail, fast food and restaurants, bakeries, gas stations, and offices, to name several of the large listing available.
Having the overlay would give those the ability to not go through a hearing about utilizing that property for commercial purposes if it is listed as agricultural or another type of zoning.
The proposed plans would go before the technical review committee to ensure that drainage and setback requirements were met. If approved, it would be the second overlay district in Marshall County for a city, with Plymouth having six in its limits.
Residents spoke against the zoning change. The Plan Commission voted to recommend against the zoning change. The matter will now go before the Marshall County Commissioners. What are your thoughts on the possible zoning change?
