Weekend motorcyle crash leaves 2 hospitalized

July 30, 2012

PLYMOUTH — Jeremy Wegner, 34, of Elkhart, and Kimberly Danaher, 27, of Cassopolis, Mich., were injured early Sunday morning while they were traveling northbound on Michigan Road coming onto the overpass ramp for U.S. 31 North. Marshall County police reported that evidence at the scene showed that Wegner's 1980 Yamaha motorcycle went off the roadway and struck the face of the guardrail on the north side of the ramp. The motorcycle continued traveling against the guardrail face for a short distance and came to rest on the overpass in the middle of the ramp.
Both Wegner and Danaher were thrown off the motorcycle. Wegner received life threatening injuries during the collision and was flown from the scene to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Danaher was also transported to Memorial Hospital by ambulance and is in stable condition at this time.
Marshall County police are investigating the collision, and believe alcohol was a factor. The crash occurred around 3:30 Sunday morning.
Also assisting at the scene were LaPaz Fire and EMS, Medflight, and Indiana State Police. Criminal charges are pending.
