Weather helps progress on new Pioneer Drive

PLYMOUTH — It’s full steam ahead on the new Pioneer Drive that will connect S.R. 17 and U.S. 30 sometime next year.
“We’re progressing quite well right now,” said Ron Wireman, Construction Engineer on the project for the county. “We kept the rain away for awhile and we were able to make some great progress.”
Wireman was reporting to the Marshall County Commissioners on the project at their meeting on Tuesday and also gave the good news that all utility relocation around the project was finally complete. Contractors will no longer be held up waiting for utility movement but Wireman did warn that the delays incurred currently would likely make the contractor for the project eligible to receive an extension on the completion date if they so desired.
He also said that current progress being made on the road made it unlikely that such an extension would be needed, but added that weather would be the determining factor from this point on. He said the Rieth-Riley planned to be able to lay much of the asphalt paving from S.R. 17 to the railroad near Lincolnway in the next month.
While S.R. 17 was reopened on August 7, Lincolnway will soon be closed along with Pioneer Drive and 9th Road in order to begin milling Lincolnway and 9th Road as part of their reconstruction.
Peat removal will begin in the area of 9th Road as well as ditches being cut for Lincolnway.
