WALKERTON — Walter “L” Heil, 93, of Walkerton died peacefully in his home Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 after a brief illness.
Walter was born Feb. 11, 1919 to Peter Paul and Ida Mae Heil in Walkerton. Oct. 3, 1939 he married the former Evelyne Rose Sheaks. Mr. Heil served in WWII as a Navy Seabee and was very active in Walkerton having been on the town board for 26 years. He was the American Legion’s past Post Commander and a volunteer fireman for 25 years from 1950 to 1975. Walter and Evelyne owned and operated Heil’s Restaurant for 18 years. He also worked for Walkerton Lumber and Coal for 27 years and American Door Company for 23 years retiring at the age of 77. He was a member of the Walkerton American Legion Post #189, VFW Post #1954 and the Walkerton Lodge #619 F&AM, Murat Scottish Rite. Mr. Heil was preceded in death by his parents: Peter and Ida and his wife: Evelyne in 1996. 
Walter is survived by three children: Charlene Snodgrass of Walkerton. Diane (Norm) Stahly of Walkerton and Wally (Tiffany) Heil of Martinsville. Nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
There will be a visitation Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, 408 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton with a Masonic service held at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in  the old Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton.
