Virginia P. ‘Ginnie’ Severns

KOKOMO — Virginia P. “Ginnie” Severns, 82, Kokomo, died at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013 surrounded by her family after suffering a massive stroke Saturday evening in Kokomo. She was born March 30, 1931 in Kokomo, the daughter of Cecil and Emma (Percival) Pierce. On Oct. 1, 1950 she married E.P. Severns, who survives.
Ginnie was a 1949 graduate of Kokomo High School and attended IUK from 1950-1951. She was a homemaker and worked at Continental Steel while attending IUK. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and volunteering. She was past president of the Cheer Guild. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and participated in several Bible study groups. She was a member of the Symposium, where she was past president and a member of PEO, where she was past president. One of her passions was that all of her grandchildren either have or are currently attending Culver Academies. 
Ginnie loved spending time with her family at Lake Maxinkuckee, where she cherished decades of memories. On Saturday afternoon, Ginnie told E.P. (while enjoying the view of the lake) how much she loved her home in Kokomo and her home in Culver.
Ginnie is survived by her husband of 62 years, E.P. Severns; children, E. Craig (Kristi) Severns of Kokomo, Timothy K. (Trish) Severns of Kokomo, Susan S. (Francis) Ellert of Culver; grandchildren, John C. McCullough III, Elizabeth Nicole “Nikki” Severns, Alexandra Marie “Ally” Severns, Elizabeth Ann “Betse” Ellert, Pierce Hollister Ellert, Francis Key “Fritz” Ellert, Cabot Severns Ellert; brother, Robert (Christine “Tine”) Pierce; and a host of nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Elizabeth Ann “Betse” McCullough; and sister, Norma Loman.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church, 219 W. Mulberry St., with Rev. Brian Cook and Rev. Larry Newburg officiating. Private entombment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo.
