By Mandy McFarland Editor WAKARUSA — Over the weekend, NorthWood Middle School choir students joined hundreds of choir students around the state in a unique musical event. The Indiana Music Educators Association's annual Circle the State With Song choir event took place Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Goshen College Music Center. Students in fourth and fifth grades and sixth through eighth grades comprised two conglomerate choirs, the elementary choir led by Dr. Don Ester, music professor at Ball State University, and the middle school choir led by Mr. Dan Andersen, choral director at Center Grove Middle School.
The students spent months practicing the pre-selected music under the supervision on their respective teachers. The choirs met the morning of the event to practice together before performing for an audience of family, friends and members of the public. The music festival included 510 students representing approximately 35 area schools. Coordinators included Peggy Clark, Lisa Wehrly and NorthWood Middle School's own Tonya Angle.
