Shelter to serve lunch to raise funds E-mail
Monday, 02 February 2009
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — The Marshall County Humane Society will be pleased to serve you a hot lunch on Feb. 12.
The seventh annual Baked Potato Luncheon and Salad Bar will take place at the Webster Center from 11 a.m to 1:30 p.m. next Thursday. The cost is $5 a person for tickets in advance, tickets at the door are $6.
“We started out doing this at the First United Methodist Church,” said Nancy Cox, director of the Marshall County Humane Society. “We had our Bazaar there and they had three big ovens and I always thought, ‘We could bake a lot of potatoes in those ovens’.”
She added, “We got so big that we needed even more ovens and we moved to the Webster Center about three years ago.”
The Humane Society usually serves about 300 potatoes to hungry residents but that’s not all. Salads and desserts fill the tables at the Webster Center as well, with all the proceeds going to helping the counties animals.
“All the salads are donated,” said Cox. “We started out providing salad and toppings but we just have so many donated salads of all types - pasta salad, oriental salad - anything you can imagine. Every salad is home made.”
It’s also easy for businesses to get involved. If you’re looking for lunch for the whole office the society will deliver your tickets for free if your office is in the Plymouth city limits.
To get your tickets or to donate a salad you can call the Humane Society at 574-936-8300 or visit the website at www.mchsshelter.org
