By Carol Anders Staff Writer
PLYMOUTH — Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth had to wait until Jan. 5 to welcome the first baby of 2009.
Cameron James Kring arrived at 8:35 p.m., weighing in at 5 pounds. He was 17.5 inches long.
Parents Alyssa Kring and Aaron McArthur were surprised when Cameron arrived five weeks early.
Cameron has been under the watchful eye of the staff of the OB Department, but is expected to be released early in the week.

Kring said, “I was pretty nervous when Cameron was in CCU... all of my family was nervous. I didn’t get to hold him until the Thursday after he was born. It was really hard.”
Maternal grandfather is James Kring of Plymouth. Paternal grandparents include Susan and Paul Darst of Rochester and Ed McArthur of Battle Creek, Mich.
While it was a long wait for the first baby of the New Year, from Cameron’s birth on Jan. 5 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 6, five babies had been born at the Plymouth location. Three newborns had arrived on Dec. 31.
