Suspect who fled commits suicide E-mail
Wednesday, 31 December 2008
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — An investigation into theft has ended in the suicide of the suspect.
The Plymouth Police Department received two reports in November regarding thefts of computers and accessories.
The victims informed police that they had given money and computers to Robert Saylor, 41, of Plymouth, who had promised that he would service the computers.
The victims discovered that Saylor had left the area and taken their property. Several other similar complaints were received during the month of November.
Detective Sgt. Leo Mangus located Saylor Nov. 20 in Walkerton, and he was taken to the Plymouth Police Department for further investigation.
During the investigation Saylor was able to escape from the police department and fled from the area. An arrest warrant was issued regarding five counts of theft and escape with a cash bond of $25,000.
The warrant was listed in NCIC and on Dec. 18 he was arrested in Ludowici, Ga.
On Dec. 27, Saylor apparently committed suicide in the Ludowici jail. He was being held there awaiting extradition back to Marshall County.
Chief Roberston of Ludowici Police Department advised that Saylor hanged himself in his jail cell. Robertson also advised that Saylor had written a note confessing to crimes in Plymouth.
