Knox man jailed for battery of 6-week-old son E-mail
Thursday, 18 December 2008
By John Reed Staff Writer
KNOX — A Knox man is in jail for allegedly squeezing his 6-week-old son, fracturing the baby’s ribs 25 times.
Kyle Parrott, 22, 3975 E. Toto Road Apt. C, Knox, faces three counts each of battery causing serious bodily injury and neglect of a dependent, all Class B felonies. He has a bond of $1 million.
On Wednesday, Dec. 17, a three-month-long criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Alva Whited resulted in the arrest of Parrott. Whited served Parrott with a Starke Circuit Court arrest warrant when he appeared at the Starke County Court House for a hearing in a civil matter.
Whited started his investigation at the request of the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office, after examinations by doctors at LaPorte Hospital and Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis revealed 6-week-old Landon Parrott had allegedly suffered numerous unexplained injuries to his body.
On Aug. 30, the baby was taken to the Starke Memorial Hospital emergency room by his mother for a mouth injury. During an examination, doctors reportedly discovered signs of fractures. Although doctors advised her not to do so, the mother left and took the child to LaPorte Hospital.
An examination by a doctor revealed Landon allegedly had 25 rib fractures in various stages of healing, a torn frenula (upper gum), and a healing fracture of the left clavicle. Det. Kelly Fisher of the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and the local Child and Family Services office notified LaPorte of the potential injuries.
Starke County Department of Children’s Services took Landon into protective custody immediately on Aug. 30, where he remains.
If convicted, Parrott could be  sentenced up to 20 years in prison and face a maximum fine of $10,000. He is employed at the Westville Correctional Center.
