O-D Lady Bobcats make history E-mail
Friday, 09 March 2007
BY Ron Haramia Sports Editor
INDIANAPOLIS — The little engine that could, did.
The small school with the big dream took on the much taller opponent and came away with the biggest prize of all — a state championship.
The Oregon-Davis Lady Bobcats claimed the first state title in school, and county, history with an exciting 54-46 victory over Wood Memorial in the Class A high school girls basketball state championship game Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The Lady Cats used a high-powered first half and a pivotal fourth-quarter run late in the game to cap off an amazing season by winning their last 19 games in a row, including the state championship contest.
“It’s a special team,” said senior Amber Boyle, who transferred from Plymouth at the start of the school year. “It has been our dream since before the season started. We thought that if we played together and played our best, we could get to state. We finally got here and we won!”

Among the highlights of its 25-3 season, O-D went undefeated in the Northland Conference, snapped a 10-game losing streak to NAC rival and top 10 team Argos that dated back three years, and played its best basketball when it counted the most — during the post-season.
“This is a very close group, a family,” said O-D head coach Terry Minix at the post-game press conference while sitting next to two of his starters — daughters Aubrey and Gabrielle. “We talked about this since last summer and really thought we could do it.”
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can?
You can and you did. Congratulations.

Award winner
To top off the memorable day, O-D’s Angela Boyle was named the recipient of the prestigious Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award. The winner is nominated by the school principal and coaches, must excel in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in basketball.
Oregon-Davis High School was awarded a $1,000 scholarship in Boyle’s name.
The O-D senior described not only her experience, but that of all her teammates when she said, “All day was great.”
