By Angel Perkins Editor While Christmas wasn’t to come for another 23 days, the Triton Jr. Sr. High School PAC certainly looked like it had—decked out with poinsettias, candles, toys and even a fully-decorated Christmas tree. The fourth and fifth grade classes presented the “We Need a Little Christmas” musical performance for the heavy crowd gathered and singers were a little decked out themselves—adorned in velvets, sparkles and various shades of red and green.
The fourth grade began first, entertaining with various props related to the themes of the specific songs. Some tunes shared were holiday classics such as “Winter Wonderland” and “Nuttin for Christmas,” the latter of which the students took turns in duos acting out the mischief caused by the original singing rascal and using such items as a (rubber) frog for “sisters bed” and a sugar bowl filled with (plastic) ants. For “Patapan” some students tapped the xylophones or patted drums and the more religious themes included “What Child is This,” “The First Noel,” and” Rise up Shepherd and Follow.” At the end of their set, during “Silent Night,” students sang as well as signed the words with their hands. The evening’s entertainment continued with the fifth grade who also donned extras like Santa or Elf hats (to perform “We Are Santa’s Elves”) and halos (for the angels) and shepherd’s robes to visit the Christ child. Leading them on-stage, five young ladies (Shayla May, Heather Stichter, Brooklynn Beatty and Lexee Miller) played various songs, showcasing their skills on piano, giving the audience entertainment and their peers time to get situated on stage. During “Winter Fantasy” the group sang “in round,” taking turns with the phrases simultaneously and during “Carol of the Bells,” played xylophones. Whether singing in groups, duos or solos, the students gave an hour of entertainment for those gathered to share in the holiday spirit proving another successful concert directed by Triton Elementary Musical Director Mollie Kintzel.
