First H1N1 clinic moves smoothly

PLYMOUTH — For most it is a strange sight to see. Literally hundreds of children, lined up down the block from an elementary school hoping to get a shot.
That was the unlikely scene at Washington School in Plymouth last night as The Marshall County Health Department held its first H1N1 flu shot clinic. In spite of the large numbers that turned out and the trickle of vaccine into the county, the department didn’t have to turn anyone away. Everyone who came received an inoculation.

PLYMOUTH — A fundraising project called “Chargers for Change” held Saturday that was initiated by the Ancilla College Athletics to aid the Heminger House Shelter for Woman and children was very successful.
The Heminger House is a shelter for victims of domestic abuse.
To get into the women’s and men’s basketball games on Saturday held at the LifePlex, visitors were asked to present a gift card.

Heminger House board members taking the cards said they collected approximately $700 in gifts cards. Since a few of the cards did not specify how much credit was on the cards, the exact total could not be tallied. The members were shocked and pleased when a representative from a local bank handed them a check for $100.
On hand to watch the games was Dennis Beville from Centier Bank and Randy Danielson of Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home. Both businesses, along with others, helped to sponsor the event.
Half-time entertainment was provided by basketball teams from Menominee Elementary School.  The students participated in a “scrimmage.”
Ancilla College Athletic Director Gene Reese said, “We hope to continue to help those less fortunate in our community in the future.”
