CULVER — Culver Elementary School played host to the 25th annual Marshall County Young Author’s Conference Thursday night and marked the occasion with a visit from award-winning children’s author Carolyn Crimi.
Crimi shared time with students at the school before a private book signing and “meet and greet” with winners in the conference’s annual student writing contest, and gave an address to parents and students in the school’s recently-renovated gymnasium.

Wednesday, 03 December 2008
PLYMOUTH — The Ancilla College women’s basketball team moved its record up to the .500 mark over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend with two home wins against teams who came in with a combined 10-3 record.
The Chargers began the weekend by defeating McHenry County Community College (Ill.) (5-4) 67-58, and finished up with a 79-64 victory over Edison Community College (Ohio) (5-1), a team that had defeated them just two weeks earlier. Ancilla outscored its opponents in all four halves of play.
Ancilla spread out the scoring against McHenry County. Anyae Coffer and Lauren Shepherd led the Chargers with 15 points each, followed by Bianca Woods’ 14 points. Shepherd was the top rebounder for Ancilla, finishing with nine. Woods and Brittany Wolverton pulled down seven rebounds each. Tiffany Leyva led the Lady Chargers with six assists, while Woods contributed five assists and a team-high five steals.
The difference in the Edison game was turnovers and free throws. Ancilla forced 20 of Edison’s 28 turnovers and were able to get to the free-throw line for 17 more attempts during the game, while limiting its turnover total to 18. Coffer led Ancilla with 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Woods finished with a game-high seven steals while pitching in 20 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Shepherd also had a big game with 16 points and seven rebounds.
On Saturday, Ancilla joins with local merchants in support of the Heminger House, a local shelter for women and children, to help provide gift cards for everyday items for Heminger House clients. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. against NJCAA No. 9 Kankakee Community College (4-1) and admission is free with a gift card donation for the Heminger House.
