NORTH JUDSON—A North Judson man is in jail facing attempted murder charges after shooting an “intruder” three times.
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was called to a shooting at Borne’s Trailer Park in North Judson at 7:22 p.m. Thursday night, Oct. 30.
According to the police report, the Sheriff’s Department received a call about a shooting at 5081 S. 275 W. in North Judson.  Starke County police, North Judson police and EMS quickly responded to the scene where officials found 47-year-old Gilbert Elizondo shot three times.
The call was made by the alleged shooter, Frank Campanik, 43. In his call to 911, he said he had shot an intruder in the groin.
Deputy Josh Sponaugle and North Judson Officer Skip Tomasko arrived to find Elizondo covered in blood. In the living room, the coffee table and couch were covered with blood. A .22 cal Ruger, later determined to be the weapon used, was lying on the coffee table.
Elizondo was taken to Starke Memorial Hospital and then transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend because of the severity of his wounds.
Campanik then told officers he and Elizondo had an argument. Campanik asked Elizondo to leave and he refused, at which point the shooting occurred. Campanik said he had drank about a six pack of beer. Opened and unopened cans of beer were found, along with two shot glasses.
Police reported that Campanik had a blood alcohol level of  .24. The legal limit is .08.
Officers determined that the victim is the stepfather of Campanik’s wife.
Campanik remains in the Starke County Jail. His bond has been set at $1 million. He is charged with attempted murder, a Class A felony; aggravated battery, a Class B felony; and battery, a Class C felony.
The case is still under investigation by Chief Detective Ron Lawson and Detective Kelly Fisher. Also at the scene were Sheriff Oscar Cowen, and Deputy Brack Rowe
