By Rusty Nixon Correspondent PLYMOUTH — Bids were awarded for coming city sewer projects and more are on the table for the city’s street and sidewalk projects for the year. The Plymouth Board of Sanitary Works awarded bids for two separate projects Monday night. The board had solicited bids for their Sewer Overflow Long Term Control Plan and for the renovation and replacement of a pair of lift stations.
The Sewer Overflow plan is required by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management as part of their license agreement. The plan involves the placement of several underground storage units for storm water – one at the Sanitary plant itself, one in the park area near Jefferson Street across from the Bowen Center, and another adjacent to Magnetic Park. Mark Sullivan of Commonwealth Engineering reviewed the bids for the project and recommended to the board to accept a low bid of $1,053.90 from Oselka Construction. The board also accepted the recommendation of adding $29,400 in alternate bids making the total contract for $1,082,862.90. Lift station work on Plymouth/Goshen Trail and on Michigan Street near Red Rock Inn. The station on Michigan Street will be completely reconstructed, while the station on Plymouth/Goshen Trail will be refurbished. The projects were bid together. Sullivan recommended that the board accept the low bid of Selge Construction for $480,853.57. The board added alternates worth $51,893 to make the total contract worth $532,746.70. The bid awards on contingent on the city finding the financing for the projects. The city announced that it will give notice of intention for selling a bond issue on Friday with the sale of bonds to be Oct. 14. The bond issue will be fore $3,755,000. Bids were opened by the Board of Public Works and Safety for the city’s street and sidewalk projects. Bids were entered by Brooks of Mishawaka for $517,130, E&B Paving of Rochester for $448,045, Phend and Brown of Milford for $348,200, Reith Riley of South Bend for $444,569, and Walsh and Kelly of South Bend for $472,112. The bids were taken under advisement. There will be a special meeting of the Board of Works on Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. for the purpose of awarding the bid.
