KNOX — An investigation continues into a “bomb” delivered to a home on New York Street on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 7. Early in the afternoon, the Knox City Police were called to investigate a suspicious package found on the porch of a home on New York Street, just east of U.S. 35. The residents reportedly had not ordered anything nor were they expecting a package. Police determined there was something suspicious about the box. The Knox Fire Department was summoned to the scene in case of an explosion, and the Porter County Bomb Squad was summoned.
The bomb squad used a robot to destroy the “bomb.” Upon examination of the box, components of a bomb were found but police determined the device was a fake. A large area just off U.S. 35 was roped off and the incident attracted many gawkers. The Starke County Sheriff’s Department also was at the scene. Knox Police are not releasing details and the matter remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Knox Police Department.
