Old Fashioned Sidewalk Sales begin today E-mail
Thursday, 11 September 2008
By Carol Anders Staff Writer
PLYMOUTH — Old Fashioned Sidewalk Sales for Plymouth merchants will feature bargains galore today, Friday and Saturday.
Nickie Weidner of Yoder’s Sports Center said they use the annual sales event in inventory reduction in order to make room for new merchandise. According to Weidner, Yoder’s has been participating in the event since 1970.
She said, “Everything we offer is out of our regular line. Usually, we just have different sizes that didn’t sell during the season.”
Although The Memory Zone is no longer located in the downtown area, they still want to promote shopping locally. The Memory Zone co-owner Marlene Shively is excited about holding their first-ever tent sale.
She said, “As with other specialty shops, we find that our inventory demands to offer new items continually lead to having some merchandise stored away.”
They are putting up a tent for the sale days in order to keep displays protected from the weather.
Shively said, “Shop early for the best selection and later for the best prices.”
Today selected items will be at a 50-percent savings off regular prices. The percentage of savings will increase each day with a 60-percent savings Friday, 70 percent off Saturday and an high of 80 percent off on Sunday. They will be open during the sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and from noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Shoppers will also want to visit the store each day to sign up for a drawing of a $25 gift certificate to be given away each day.
Those wanting more information about classes offered at The Memory Zone will want to visit the stor’s Web site at  www.themomoryzone.com.
Karen Snyder of Na Rie Simple Treasures believes that events such as Old Fashioned Sidewalk Sales helps all merchants, as well as show appreciation for customers who regularly shop locally.
Snyder said, “We have been in downtown Plymouth for almost five years and we have participated in every sales event offered.”
Na Rie Simple Treasures is also a specialty shop offering a wide variety of gift and décor items. Shoppers in the store during the Old Fashioned Sidewalk Sales will be pleased with the 25-percent markdowns throughout the store and outside displays.
Treat’s Squire Shop has also participated in the special events for a number of years. Like other merchants, they offer only regular merchandise at the end of a season, not closeouts, substitutes or special purchases.
