By Jeff Kenney Staff Writer
CULVER — Culver Elementary School played host to the 25th annual Marshall County Young Author’s Conference Thursday night and marked the occasion with a visit from award-winning children’s author Carolyn Crimi.
Crimi shared time with students at the school before a private book signing and “meet and greet” with winners in the conference’s annual student writing contest, and gave an address to parents and students in the school’s recently-renovated gymnasium.

Menominee Elementary fourth graders have planted a memorial garden for their classmate, Zac Flosenzier, who tragically lost his life in an accident earlier this year.

Menominee Principal Mike Dunn said he asked the teachers and staff of the school to share plantings from their own gardens to start the memorial.
The students and teachers arranged the donations in front of the art room window.
Dunn said, “At school we tend to believe that it is the teachers who primarily do the teaching. Zac was the type of student who taught us.”
