First H1N1 clinic moves smoothly
Image
Nurse Barb White administers a shot to a brave Jacob Deacon, who didn’t flinch when accepting the H1N1 vaccine at Washington Elementary School Thursday. Pilot photos/Maggie Nixon

By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — For most it is a strange sight to see. Literally hundreds of children, lined up down the block from an elementary school hoping to get a shot.
That was the unlikely scene at Washington School in Plymouth last night as The Marshall County Health Department held its first H1N1 flu shot clinic. In spite of the large numbers that turned out and the trickle of vaccine into the county, the department didn’t have to turn anyone away. Everyone who came received an inoculation.

Labor Day weekend saw the premiere of the first annual Lake Maxinkuckee Film Festival, which kicked off Friday night with a gala movie event at the Uptown Cinema for event sponsors that included the movie “Mamma Mia.!” wine and a catered dinner.

Saturday included several movies at the theatre and an afternoon and evening of food and drinks provided by the Antiquarian and Historical Society of Culver and the Lions Club. Live musical performances included the Culver Academies marching band, the Culver Community High School Jazz Street choir, the Marshall County Church Orchestra and the Culver Academy faculty jazz band. The evening concluded with a screening of “Chicago” on a 25-foot screen in the park. The festival, themed “The Gift of Warmth,” raised money and took in donations towards keeping youth in the Culver Community School systems warm this winter.
