County officials to begin budgeting E-mail
Monday, 25 August 2008
By Rusty Nixon Correspondent
PLYMOUTH — It will be a long 48 hours for members of the Marshall County Council and the counties various department heads as today and tomorrow they hash out numbers for the coming year’s budget.
Every department of county government service will make an appearance before the council to go over numbers presented several weeks ago to make up the budget for the coming fiscal year.
With the uncertainty of just what is going to happen with recent property tax reform legislation enacted by the state legislature, the council had asked all department heads to trim or at least remain status quo on their budget requests.
Preliminary reports from paper work handed out by County Auditor Penny Lukenbill to members of the council at their last public meeting indicated that nearly all department heads had attempted to cut their budgets for the coming year.
Day one will see the bulk of the county budget hashed out with the Marshall County Commissioners and the highway department scheduled to appear before lunch. Salaries and wages for county employees will be discussed in that part of the hearings.
Monday afternoon will see Superior Courts 1 and 2 as well as the Marshall County Circuit Court discuss numbers with the council.
After a break the Sherriff’s department will talk budget with the council.
For Tuesday, the prosecutor’s office will lead off the day with the probation department and court services highlighting the afternoon.
In all 37 different departments will come before the council to go over budgets for the coming year.
The hearings will be held in the Commissioners Meeting Room of the Marshall County Building. The public is welcome to attend.
