First H1N1 clinic moves smoothly

PLYMOUTH — For most it is a strange sight to see. Literally hundreds of children, lined up down the block from an elementary school hoping to get a shot.
That was the unlikely scene at Washington School in Plymouth last night as The Marshall County Health Department held its first H1N1 flu shot clinic. In spite of the large numbers that turned out and the trickle of vaccine into the county, the department didn’t have to turn anyone away. Everyone who came received an inoculation.

PLYMOUTH — One of Plymouth’s own was honored by the Plymouth Common Council Monday night.
Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter honored Rebecca Moberly with a proclamation in honor of her achievements at Girls Nation. Moberly, a delegate to Hoosier Girls State, was chosen as one of two girls from the state of Indiana for the trip to Washington D.C. as a part of Girls Nation.

“It was the most amazing experience of my life,” said Moberly. “I met so many intelligent girls from across the United States with similar aspirations.”
The program allows delegates to form their own mock government, and hone their leadership skills in a real way.
“It overwhelmed me at first but it allowed me to become a leader among leaders,” said Moberly. “I was excited to be elected minority party chair, among eight other candidates. Our party was victorious the entire week. In addition I was honored to be appointed Secretary of State by the government counselors and the Girls Nation president.”
The most exciting part may have been a lunch with Indiana Senator Richard Lugar.
“He took the time to eat lunch with the Indiana senators from Boys and Girls Nation,” she said. “He was incredibly friendly with us all and took the time to answer questions about United States foreign policy.”
Moberly also had a chance to visit the White House.
“No matter how you feel about President Bush, it is the most exciting experience seeing him walk into a room,” she said.
Moberly was also very thankful to those who made the trip possible.
“Overall, my week in Washington D.C. was incredible,” she said. “I must thank the American Legion Auxiliary for allowing me to have this opportunity and giving me a once-in-a-lifetime trip that I will never forget.”
