PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Jr. League Baseball Travel Teams recently got the opportunity to compete in a state baseball tournament that ranges from west of the Lafayette area all the way to the Elkhart and Nappanee area in many divisions: 12 and under, 10 and under, a 9 and under and an 8 and under, with divisions having anywhere from six to 55 teams competing. Two of the Plymouth’s three teams will be competing for a state title.
The 10 & under team advanced to the state round with a record of 9-1 winning the first district in Mentone with a record of 5-0 to advance the semistate in North Manchester. The team then won the semistate with a record of 4-1 to advance to Rochester to compete in the state finals. “The travel league this year was very fortunate to have the three different travel teams this year,” said one of the coaches, Jason Peters. The 10-year-old travel team will play in the state finals at Rochester tonight at 6 p.m. The 10 and 11-year-olds finished second in the Tri-County League, which is the same league the 12-year-olds compete in. The 10 and 11-year-old team consisted of six 10-year-olds and six 11- year-olds. Peters said, “With a second-place finish in a league that consisted of mostly 12-year-old teams, that is a big accomplishment.” The 12-year-old team finished in first place in the Tri-County League and has advanced to the state final round which is held in North Manchester. They finished third in the district to advance to Rochester for the semistate where they finished third to advance to the state finals. The 9 and under team took the title at the Walkerton Tourney, going undefeated in that competition. The 8 and under team competed there as well, but lost both of its games. In a tournament in Mexico, the 8 and under team advanced to the semifinal round, but lost in the semifinals. |
