This Michigan Street home was safely moved to its new location on Center Street in Plymouth. Even though there was a slight mist of rain, the move was completed. Pilot Photo/Greg Hildebrand By Carol Anders Staff Writer PLYMOUTH — Plymouth residents Dennis and Joan Emmons, of D&J Enterprises, were breathing a little easier late Tuesday, after watching an historic home that they purchased finally reach its new location earlier in the day. The home was moved from the 600 block of N. Michigan Street to 1000 N. Center Street. The house, balancing on steel beams and tires, was pulled onto Michigan Street around 9:30 a.m. By late evening, the movers were able to pull the house on the Center Street lot. The home will still have to be rolled on the foundation. The move was scheduled for last Thursday morning, but heavy rains during the early morning hours prompted the owners to postpone the project that day. Seemingly oblivious to a mild rain Tuesday morning, a small crowd gathered to watch the move. By late afternoon, the crowd had grown to about 75 people who watched the house be inched along by the crew of the moving company, Mitchelson Relocaters. The Emmonses decided to move the home as part of their commitment to revitalize and restore the neighborhood on Center Street. St. Michael Catholic School plans to use the emptied lot on Michigan Street to expand a playground.
