Members of the Indiana State Board of Health (BOAH) and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security has scheduled a class for Wednesday, July 30 in Argos, so veterinarians, emergency technicians, animal shelter workers, livestock owners and others that may be called upon to help in disastrous situations can learn what to do.
“EMA (Emergency Manage-ment Agency) directors from seven counties will be there,” Argos resident Dave Carr said before the Argos Town Council. “The Indianapolis Star will be there and there are still openings for volunteers to be involved.”
The Indiana Veterinary Medical Association offers a continuing education credit to those animal professionals that attend for taking the class. During the full-day session attendees will increase their understanding of other animal health emergencies like the avian flu.
The Animal Issues in Disasters class will be held beginning 8:30 a.m. at the Argos United Methodist Church Community Life Center at 570 N. Michigan, Argos. It is free of charge but registration is required by July 21.

Added Carr, “We are not ready for any emergency like this.”
