Megan Stephenson, of rural Argos, captured first place in the Bremen Chamber of Commerce Karaoke Contest last Saturday night, held at the Firemen's Festival at Sunnyside Park. The 17-year-old Plymouth High School student sang Faith Hill's "Like We Never Loved at All" and Janis Joplin's "Me and Bobby McGee" during the contest, then did an encore song of "The Greatest Love of All" by Whitney Houston after she was announced the winner.

Stephenson won $100 in Bremen Bucks as well as an invitation to sing the national anthem at Bremen Day at the Cove, set for 1 p.m. July 13 at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend.
Earning second place in the contest and $50 in Bremen Bucks was Shelby Dirrim of Bremen with "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston. Third place winner was Bethany Pike of Plymouth who sang "Killing Me Softly" and took home $25 in Bremen Bucks.
A large crowd gathered in the pole barn at Sunnyside Park for the event and more than 30 people competed in this first-ever competition. Judges were: Dean Huppert, a 1985 graduate of Bremen High School who has worked with WSJV-TV since 1991; Jamie Belcher, a top-15 finisher in the Miss Indiana 2008 pageant who runs her own direct sales jewelry business; and Heath Thornton, vice president of the Bremen Town Council, owner of Plaza Jewelry in Bremen and an automotive shop in Osceola and well-known "karaoke master."
