PLYMOUTH — With the deadline now here for political filings for November’s general election ballot, three Democratic candidates filed Wednesday for Marshall County Council At-Large seats. Robert Listenberger, Don Massing and Cliff Allen arrived at the Marshall County Clerk’s office together.
Allen said, “I feel like we should give the people of Marshall County a choice. If nobody runs, why have an election?”
Allen, who has been employed with NIPSCO for 48 years, said he has the time to commit to public office. He said that his company and work hours allow him to be involved in the community.Allen also shared his concern over the budget of the county. He said, “The budget needs to be ‘lean and mean’. We should be watching our pennies to make sure they are being spent properly.” Massing shared the same thoughts. He said, “We need to give everybody a choice. We need a little bit of a balance. I’m kind of upset that some want to move the fairgrounds.” Massing is self-employed as a courier. He said, “I’m out in the community every day.” Listenberger is also self-employed. He is involved in both Hoosier Catering and a KFC store. Listenberger said he also does some government contracting in food service. He feels that his flexible hours will allow him time to participate in the council, if elected. He also serves as the secretary for the Democratic Party at the county level.
