First H1N1 clinic moves smoothly

PLYMOUTH — For most it is a strange sight to see. Literally hundreds of children, lined up down the block from an elementary school hoping to get a shot.
That was the unlikely scene at Washington School in Plymouth last night as The Marshall County Health Department held its first H1N1 flu shot clinic. In spite of the large numbers that turned out and the trickle of vaccine into the county, the department didn’t have to turn anyone away. Everyone who came received an inoculation.

Triathlon raises money for park’s odds and ends E-mail
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

PLYMOUTH — Over the weekend, the area’s kids came out to show their skills and raise money for the Plymouth Parks Department with the kids-BIGred3 triathlon.

“We had more participants, volunteers and spectators this year,” said Gina Young, the event’s organizer. “The participants showed outstanding sportsmanship, and put another great effort into collecting their pledges.”

All money from the event goes to facilities and programs at Centennial Park. In the past, money from the event has gone toward a climbing wall and the electronic signs used to promote park events.

“It was a spectacular display of what this community does so well... providing healthy, active and exciting opportunities for the children in the Marshall County area,” said Young — who also thanked the sponsors of the event. “It would not have been possible without the local businesses joining our efforts with their generous contributions.”

Money raised from this year will go to a Splash Pad in Centennial Park. The success of the event has also prompted some proposed changes for the event next year.

“We hope to add another division next year at the request of parents and athletes by adding longer distances to the course for those up for the challenge,” said Young. “The addition to the day is sure to increase our race participants and get us closer to meeting our goal.”
