Fire department celebrates 150 years E-mail
Wednesday, 02 July 2008

PLYMOUTH — It may be a wet day in the Park if Plymouth’s Fire Department (PFD) has anything to say about it.

This Saturday the department will be providing all kinds of “wet” fun as part of celebrating 150 years in service to the city. To that end, PFD is hosting a party for the community on July 5 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Hoosier Old Wheels pavilion in Centennial Park.

“We’re proud of what we do and this is a chance to showcase the department for the community a little bit and give everybody a chance to know a little of the history of their fire department,” said Fire Chief Andy Metsker. “We’re also going to give people a chance to have a little hands-on experience with some historical things like a bucket brigade.”

A crowd favorite at festivals in the summer, those attending will also have a chance to try their hand at a game of “water ball.”

“We’ll have the pressure a little lower and we may give some people a hand at holding the hose,” said Metsker. “It will essentially be the same game that people see the firemen play.”There will also be other games for those who come out. A dunk tank and a slip and slide are a few of the games that will be available along with “firefighting” activities for kids of all ages.
“Anything that’s wet,” said Metsker.

The department will also provide free hot dogs and soda, and the department’s new Engine 150 will be on display.
