EUGENE, Ore. — Just one race stands between Morgan Uceny and a trip to the 2008 Olympics.
The 2003 Plymouth High School graduate won her semifinal heat in the women’s 800 meter run at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. Saturday, turning in the best overall time in either semifinal.
Her time of 2:02.10 edged out second-place Hazel Clark, who finished in 2:02.14. “It felt pretty good,” Uceny said following the race. “I was a little tired before the race. When I run the 800, I feel pain for about 700 meters, so I just have to push through.” A four-person pile up marred the first semifinal heat, but Uceny said that had no impact on her approach. “That’s just a fact of the race that’s out of your control,” she said. “I just have worry about my own race.” Uceny competes in the finals tonight at 8:15 p.m.
