Dr. Peigh spends last days as interim E-mail
Thursday, 26 June 2008
By Carol Anders Staff Writer
PLYMOUTH — Dr. Damon Peigh is leaving the Plymouth Schools as interim superintendent after being on board for the last six months. Peigh began in January of this year after former Superintendent John Hill retired. Dr. Peigh was on site two or three days per week.
After several months of reviewing applications and interviewing prospective candidates for the top spot, then-Assistant Superintendent Dan Tyree was named superintendent.
Following that announcement, applications were considered for the assistant position. Rodger Smith was hired only last month and will officially begin as assistant superintendent on June 30.
Peigh said he has enjoyed his time with the Plymouth Schools.
Although he retired in December of 2004 after 38 years of public school experience, Peigh has continued to serve in interim superintendent positions and is also employed by NEOLA.
NEOLA of Indiana serves 18 school corporations by developing and updating board policies, administrative guidelines, and correlated forms.
Peigh has been especially helpful to the Plymouth Schools. Tyree said, “Dr. Peigh has provided the right amount of leadership and expertise to get us thorough the transition.”
Dr. Peigh was equally as positive about the contributions of Tyree.
Peigh said, "Tyree was a good candidate from day one.” “He brings a lot to the job especially from the academic side of education.”
Dr. Peigh held a number of positions during his active teaching and administrative years. He was with the Vigo County Schools in Terre Haute for 17 years where he taught math, was dean of students and also athletic director.
In his four years with the Madison Schools in Madison, he was a high school principal.
He began his service as a superintendent at the Taylor Community Schools in Kokomo. He was with that system for nine years.
After more than seven years, he retired from the MSD Wabash County system as superintendent.
He has held interim positions with Cloverdale, Turkey Run, Madison Grant and Plymouth.
Dr. Peigh and his wife Kathy live on the south side of Indianapolis. Kathy Peigh is also a retired math teacher.
